Sales and profit are different
Illustration: an item costs ৳68 and sells for ৳75. Before other adjustments, product profit is ৳7. A ৳5 discount reduces the sale to ৳70 and product profit to ৳2.
Set limits first
Set discount limits by responsibility instead of negotiating every sale at the counter. Discounts above the limit or sales below the target margin may need approval. Shopkeeper records that approval and its reason.
Rounding is part of the money
Rounding a bill down to a whole taka may feel small, but it is still a money adjustment. Understand discounts and rounding separately and keep both within the permitted limits.
What to review at closing
Review the discounts, who gave them and their effect on product profit. Higher total sales alone do not show whether a discount helped. Dedicated discount insight reports are not available yet.
